Evans left after a Hype gig to concentrate on academia. The band had come to an agreement that there was no need for three guitarists (The Evans brothers and Bono at the time). Upon leaving the band,they played one final gig, first as The Hype, then returning without the elder Evans brother as U2. He later joined fellow Dublin scenesters the Virgin Prunes. Known for about a day as "The Larry Mullen Band," the group featured Mullen on drums, Adam Clayton on bass guitar, Paul Hewson (Bono) on vocals, Dave Evans (The Edge) on guitar, his brother DikEvans on guitar and Mullen's friends Ivan McCormick and Peter Martin.
DikEvans announced his departure in March 1978.
Dik walked offstage halfway through the set and later joined the Virgin Prunes, a fellow Dublin band.
