Dike is a city located in Grundy County, Iowa. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 944.


Geography

Dike is located at 42°27'53" North, 92°37'40" West (42.464706, -92.627688)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.4 km˛ (1.3 mi˛). 3.4 km˛ (1.3 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 944 people, 379 households, and 275 families residing in the city. The population density is 280.4/km˛ (723.5/mi˛). There are 393 housing units at an average density of 116.7/km˛ (301.2/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 98.62% White, 0.21% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. 0.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 379 households out of which 33.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.6% are married couples living together, 6.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.2% are non-families. 24.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 2.97.


In the city the population is spread out with 25.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 24.9% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 99.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.8 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $43,750, and the median income for a family is $51,518. Males have a median income of $35,000 versus $22,321 for females. The per capita income for the city is $20,532. 4.7% of the population and 2.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 6.1% of those under the age of 18 and 3.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
