DILLINGER (1945) - DVD (1453 words)
Lawrence Tierney is to heavies as Marilyn Monroe is to bombshells and Casablanca is to the movies themselves--that is to say, a conglomerate of all that have ever existed.
Tierney's Dillinger is unlikeable and dumb, which is a retroactive watering-down of his monstrous and slightly senile Joe from Reservoir Dogs.
John Dillinger's bank robberies of the 1930s are a ripe topic in that the public wasn't terribly outraged by them.
Dillinger (1945) (1549 words)
Dillinger, Oscar-nominated for its screenplay, is the bullet-paced story of the man whose crimes captivated and terrified the nation.
How much of Dillinger connects with historical reality remains to be seen, but frankly, I can’t say this issue matters much to me. 1973’s Dillinger almost certainly presents a more accurate portrayal of the gangster’s life, but it lacks many other positive attributes.
Dillinger appears in an aspect ratio of 1.33:1 on this single-sided, single-layered DVD; due to those dimensions, the image has not been enhanced for 16X9 televisions.
