Dina Pathak was born as Dina Sanghvi in Gujarat in 1922. She became a theatre actress at a young age and she made her debut in the Gujarati film Kariyawar (1948). She left films, got married and had a daughter, Supriya Pathak in 1961. She made a come back, but in Hindi films, in Usni Kahani (1966) at the age of 44. she made 4 films in the 1960s including Saat Hindustani (1969) (Amitabh Bachchan's debut in films). She shot into stardom in the 1970s, when playing mostly motherly and grandmotherly roles. It was these films that she became recognized as the Grand-Old-Mother of Hindi films. She continued acting through the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and even the 2000s. She made her last film which was Pinjar (2003), but sadly, she died before the release after a prolonged illness in 2002.
