Meneghin, 53, played in Italy's top division for 28 seasons and is considered Italy's top player and one of the greatest international players of all time.
The 6-foot-9 Meneghin, who was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in 1970, said leaving for the NBA then would have taken away his amateur status and kept him from playing for Italy's national team in the World Championships and the Olympics.
Meneghin, who coaches with the Italian national team that is competing in the current European Championships to qualify for next year's Olympics, said he spent much of Thursday touring the shrine and taking pictures of his new plaque and the jersey he donated to the Hall.
