Gameplay

A screenshot showing Keith crouching on a broken bridge during a tremor. The vehicles in front of him are about to fall down the chasm which has opened in the road.

HP is the character health and QP is the amount of energy the chararacter has left. QP can be regenerated by drinking water. If the character becomes thirsty from running or other various tasks, the player must provide the character with drinking water. If the player does not do this, the character begins to slowly lose health. Water can be drunk from clean taps or from bottled water filled up along the way. It's even possible to give your companion water too. Image File history File links Zettaizetsumei. ... Image File history File links Zettaizetsumei. ... Screenshot of a KDE desktop. ...

Ultimately, the aim of the game is to make your way through the city avoiding hazards and finding new routes through seemingly impossible pathways. When an aftershock strikes, the player must make Keith crouch, to keep him stable and safe from harm. Though there are other times when fleeing is safer than ducking on the spot.

Customisation of equipment can help Keith, or in the case of certain accessories, just change his appearence. Though, due to vary sizes of backpacks collected, he can only hold so many items; thus leading to decisions of what to keep hold of and what is expendable.

Keith is aided (or hampered) by various companions. It's up to the player how they react to questions, adding to customisation of the character. The nicer you are however, the better ending you get. At one point Keith has choice of companion, Karen or Kelly, both with different areas to explore and storylines to uncover. Greg joins at certain times but his story is entwined with the plot, so he's never fully with you during the game.

Plot

The year is 2001...

After ten years of building in secret, the government announces to the world the completion of a top-secret project based in the Pacific Ocean. It was the construction of an artificial isle known as Stiver Island. In a feat of revolutionary technology, the government utilized its top engineering talent to transform a minor spur of rock that barely stood above the ocean waves to a thriving man-made island, complete with a state-of-the-art metropolis. This endeavor was beyond any previous architectural accomplishment in man's history, dating back to the construction of the pyramids of Egypt. The revolutionary technology allowed the goverment to build in a location that reached a depth in the ocean floor that was believed unusable by modern standards. The advanced construction methods were also well below the cost and timetables associated with current methods of construction. This technology, the government officials felt, would be an incredible offering for other countries that are suffering from over-crowded cities and population explosions. Because of this, a great deal of attention was given to this man-made island. The government officials knew with this technology they had an incredible export item for the rest of the world. To prove their faith in the strength and durability of the technology and to gain credibility from the rest of the world's scientists and leaders, they decided to move part of the government's administrative functions to Stiver Island. For this reason, the city on Stiver Island is called "Capital City."
