Discipline Global Mobile is an small independent record company.
DGM started operating in 1992 as a response to exploitative and dishonest habits of the EG Group of Companies. They disagree with the commercial interests of most record labels, and feel that it gets between artists and their fans, disrupting the enjoyment of music.
DGM carried the negative weight of this expectation without the corresponding total ownership and exploitation of the artist and all their works.
The phonographic copyright in these performances is operated by DisciplineGlobalMobile on behalf of the artist and compositor, with whom it resides, contrary to common practice in the record industry.
Discipline accepts no reason for artists to assign the copyright interests in their work to either record company or management by virtue of a "common practice" which was always questionable, often improper, and is now indefensible.
Discipline was originally the band's name, with Bruford and Fripp from the previous 70s incarnation of Crimson joining up with guitarist/vocalist Adrian Belew (fresh from Frank Zappa's band) and bassist Tony Levin (who has played in innumerable jazz and rock bands).
Robert Fripp has stated, "Discipline is a vehicle for joy," and I concur.
In short, Discipline is perhaps the most successful and in a sense truly 'progressive' comeback of a prog rock group that had been away for seven years.
