Except where monorail or ferry service exists, direct bus service is provided from every hotel to every attraction, and between attractions. This contrasts with most public transportation systems, which use a hub-and-spoke system. Disney's approach avoids transfers for most movements but leads to longer wait times (Disney guarantees no more than a 20 minute wait). No service is provided between Downtown Disney and other attractions (except Typhoon Lagoon, which is on the same route) because, when it was, people would park for free at Downtown Disney to avoid paying to park at the theme parks. Walt Disney World Resort - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (2937 words)
Walt Disney focused most of his attention on the "Florida Project" both before and after his participation at the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair, but he died on December 15, 1966, almost five years before his vision was realized.
Most of Walt Disney World's Central Florida land and all of the public areas are located in the cities of Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista, located southwest of Orlando and a few miles northwest of Kissimmee.
Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Polynesian Resort, and Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground were also completed in time for the park's opening on October 1, 1971.
