When Gredenko supplied Soviet suitcase nuclear devices to BXJ Technologies, Graem Bauer hired Darren McCarthy to oversee the dismantling of the five nuclear bombs. Graem also assigned McCarthy to recycle the bomb's components into nuclear energy production. When terrorist Abu Fayed offered McCarthy 3.5 million to obtain the bombs, McCarthy sold them, but didn't know when Fayed planned on detonating them. Although Fayed assumed their arrangement was an equal partnership, Gredenko is actually using Fayed as a scapegaot: dealing a crippling blow to the West while also ensuring that the Middle East is blamed for the attacks.
