The van came in short, regular, and extended lengths on two different wheelbases. The design was updated the 1994 model year, the first redesign since 1971, however the headlight shape changed a few times in that timeframe. The dash changed for 1978 or 1979 and remained virtually the same until 1998 when it was upgraded to include functional drink holders.There was a Travel Seating option that was available through the 1994 model year that included a dinette and bed ability. In 1998, the engine was moved forward 4 inches allowing more room inside the van along with a slightly new look in front. In 1995, Dodge changed the series to 1500, 2500, and 3500, prior they had been 150, 250, 350. In 1995 or 1996, the rear armrest went away. In 1997, the vent windows became non-functional. The Ram Van, which was a cargo van, was also available in a passenger van version known as the Dodge Ram Wagon.
Dodge was (and still is, if one counts the Dodge Sprinter) the last of the four major full-size van makers to market a short-wheelbase van and passenger wagon.
