Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães International Airport (more commonly called Dois de Julho International Airport) is Salvador's main airport , and it is administered by Infraero, and is located 20 km north from the Salvador's downtown. Currently, is the 6th most movimented airport in Brazil.
The airport was founded in 1925, and was completely redemodeled in 1941 ("necessities of war", declared Americans and the Brazilian government altogether). Its old name was Santo Amaro do Ipitanga.
In 1955, the airport changed its name to Dois de Julho, and , in 1998, to the present name, although Salvador's habitants mostly continue to refer to the airport to the older name Dois de Julho.
In 2000, the airport went under a major reestructure, that made the airport one of the most modern airports in Brazil.
The airport operates an average of 100 domestic flights and 16 international flights.
