2 GOLD SCUDOS – GOTHIC BROOCH (337 words)
Over a hundred years ago, in the Republic of San Marino, the ancient treasure of Domagnano was discovered and is still today one of the most significant collections of artifacts from the Germanic high Middle Ages in Europe.
The discovery of the Domagnano Treasure links the territory and the history of San Marino more firmly to its common European background in which the great migrations of peoples took place, with wars, alternating dominations, and a continuous sequence of civilizations and cultures.
To commemorate the importance of the Domagnano Treasure, the Republic of San Marino has reproduced two gold scudos with the image of one of the two paired eagles that represented an opulent ornament of Germanic innovation.
