The Lockport Dominicans as they are commonly known, are in the process of re-founding their Community. In late 2004 using the internet, especially through www.phatmass.com, the Nuns began to interest young women in their way of life. An aspirant, now in the second stage of formation called postulancy, entered in May, 2005, another in August and another in December. About 100 young women have been in contact with the Nuns, and many have visited or will visit. Over twelve have applied to enter the Monastery in the past few months. The Nuns hope to construct a new monastery soon, that is more conducive to prayer and quiet, as their current building was a former convent for active sisters. They have a pictorial journal of their life: www.xanga.com/ldominican and a blog: www.dominicannuns.blogspot.com To contact the Nuns, please write: Dominican Nuns Monastery of the Heart of Jesus 155 Church Street Lockport, LA 70374 |
