Encyclopedia > Don't Go To Jail

Don't Go To Jail is a Parker Brothers dice game for two or more players inspired by Monopoly. The game is played by rolling ten dice and attempting to roll matches to score points. The Parker Brothers logo is recognized throughout the world. ... Dice games are quite universal. ... Monopoly is one of the best-selling commercial board games in the world. ...

Seven of the dice have various colors, utilities, or railroad icons on them (all from the Monopoly board game). The remaining three dice are blank on four sides, with the other two showing the words "Go", "to", or "jail." A board game is any game played with a premarked surface, with counters or pieces that are moved across the board. ...

The player scores point for the round if enough dice show a color, utility, or railroad. The amount of dice that need to show a type to score depends on the property. If a die shows "Go", "to", or "jail", that die is placed aside. The player can continue rerolling unmatched dice until he decides to end his turn and claim his points, or until all three "Go to jail" dice land faceup (causing him to lose all points earned so far that round and pass his turn).

The game is won when a player earns enough points from matches. The number of points required to win is determined by the players at the start of the match.
