Synopsis

Don (Amitabh Bachchan) is the leader of an underworld gang until Police Officer D'Silva (Iftekhar) tracks him down and kills him. Then Officer D'Silva tracks down a lookalike of Don named Vijay. Vijay impersonates Don to take down the rest of Don's gang while the DSP promises him that he will give a proper education to his wards who are actually the children of Jasjit (Pran). In the meantime Jasjit comes out of prison after serving his term, only to find Officer having a red diary that would show Vijay's true identity. Officer D'Silva is killed by Malik who is introduced as the interpol officer, but in actual fact the real king of the underworld. • A Hindi remake Don - The Chase Begins Again starring Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Isha Koppikar and Kareena Kapoor made by Farhan Akhtar was recently released on October 20, 2006.
• The film was first remade in 1979 in Telugu as Yugandhar starring N.T. Rama Rao and Jayasudha. Although some of film tunes were different than the original Hindi film, the tune for the Hindi song Khaike Pan Banaras wala was exactly the same, and it was now titled Oh Rabba Yesukunna Killi.
• A year later, Don was remade again, this time in Tamil as Billa (film) (1980) starring Rajnikanth. This movie also had the remade version of the Khaike Pan Banaras Wala as Vethallaya Pottendi Shakthi Konjam Yerudhad. This blockbuster film helped Rajnikanth achieve Superstar status.
