"He (Don Cardwell) was one of the best hitting pitchers in history, or at least that I've seen." - Tom Seaver
The Cubs pitcher, Don Cardwell, held the red-birds hitless for nine innings to become the sixth Cubs' pitcher to throw a no-hit game and their second in the 20th century.
However, what makes this no-hitter remarkable is that Cardwell had just been traded by the Philadelphia Phillies making him the first pitcher to throw a no-hitter in his first start after being traded.
