Encyclopedia > Don Chezina

Born Ricardo Garcia Ortiz in Georgia of Puerto Rican parents in 1976, the reggaeton artist is better known by his stage name: Don Chezina. Son of musician Ricardo Garcia, the Latin from Manhattan, he later moved with his family to Puerto Rico, where he also became known as the Machine Gun Rapper of Puerto Rico.

His start at recording came with a contribution to "The Noise" which was a great success. The production gave impetus several collaborations, such as his recordings with DJ Playero and Eric y La Industria, that helped establish his name among the leaders of the genre.

Don Chezina's solo career took off with the release of his debut album, Bien Guillao de Ganster. The album included the hit songs "Mi Historia", "Si yo volviera a nacer" and "Bendicion de Dios" with Rey Pirin.

After another collaborative recording with United States rapper, Q'Tip in 1997, Chezina released his second album: Mi Trayectoria in 1998; a compilation and remix of his hit songs plus two new tracks.

In all, Chezina has appeared in more than a dozen music videos and as an invited performer in over 40 music albums, in addition to his own two solor albums. He has appeared with other noted artists and bands such as Ivy Queen, Daddy Yankee, Vico C, Hector & Tito and Wisin & Yandel.

While already wildly popular, with songs that speak forcefully against violence and drugs, Don Chezina continues to mature artistically and will likely remain among the leaders of reggaeton music.
