Don Louis Lorimier (1748 - June 26, 1812) was born in the Etienne parish of Montréal, Quebec, Canada. He is considered to be the first European settler of Cape Girardeau, where he later served as the Spanish Land Commandant of the area prior to its transfer first from Spain to France, and shortly thereafter to United States via the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. Lorimier is responsible for the founding of at least two Missouri counties. The first was Cape Girardeau County, which he settled and helped organize. The second was Bollinger County, for which Lorimer played a pivotal role by granting Spanish land to George Frederick Bollinger, his family, and twenty other German Reformed families from North Carolina.
