Don Lionele Tommasino was an old friend of Vito corleone who lived in Vito's native village 'Corleone'. He assisted Vito in the killing of Don Ciccio who had ordered the assassination of Vito Corleone's father Antonio Andolini and played a direct part in the death of his mother who had come to plead with him to spare her sons life; this was the reason for Vito to migrate to America. When Michael killed the police captain McCluskey, it was to Don Tommasino's aid that Michael had been sent; he provided Michael with a place or refuge, safe from the law and those who might wish to kill him, as a favour to Don Vito whom he respected greatlty.
