Dongdaemun—more properly known as Heunginjimun—is a prominent landmark in central Seoul, South Korea. The Korean name "Dongdaemun" means "Great East Gate," and it was so named because it was the major eastern gate in the wall that surrounded Seoul during the Joseon Dynasty. The gate is located in Jongno 6-ga. Hangul is the native alphabet used to write the Korean language, as opposed to the hanja system borrowed from China. ... Dongdaemun is the younger, hippier cousin to Namdaemun ("Great South Gate"), another much-touted wholesale shopping area in Seoul, though not much to my liking.
There's also a Dongdaemun Station nearby, but the Dongdaemun Stadium Station is more convenient to where we want to go.
