According to the New York Times, Dongyang was the site of a serious riot relating to the operation of an environmentally unfriendly chemical plant. Details are difficult to find, however, reports do indicate that six policemen were killed. The factory remains closed, likely as a result of the riot. This riot is believed by some to have been a potential catalyst for further violent civil unrest over pollution generated by heavy industries in the Chinese provinces. |
