It was once the location of Donnybrook Fair, a horse fair which was notorious for drunkeness and violent disorder. This gave rise to the word donnybrook, meaning a brawl or fracas. These days, there is little trace of this disreputable past, and Donnybrook is one of the wealthiest suburbs of Dublin. The only reminder of this aspect of its history is a supermarket called Donnybrook Fair on the main street.


As Irish people travelled the world Donnybrook went with them. You will find Donnybrook in Australia in at least four states, WA, SA, Victoria and Queensland.

Dublin is the capital of Ireland, and is located on the east coast of the country, on Dublin Bay, which opens into the Irish Sea.
