Vassos graduated from Ripon Christian High School in 1994 at the age of eighteen, and attended Modesto Junior College for a year before deciding to become a professional wrestler. Vassos left college at the age of twenty and attended the APW Boot Camp, where he was trained by Michael Modest and Ric Thompson for two years.
