Dorado has long been known as a golf haven. Its touristic industry includes the Dorado Beach Resort and the El Cerromar Hotel, as well as Dorado Airport, a small airport that used to be served by Dorado Wings. In addition, there are many upscale neighborhoods and a small downtown with stores.
President Gerald Ford once stayed in Dorado during his presidency, for a 1976 meeting with other heads of state from the Caribbean.

The charming town of Dorado, is located on the northern coast of PuertoRico, 17 miles west of San Juan.
Although the town was founded in 1842, for a short period of time (1902-1905) Dorado was integrated as a suburb of the adjacent town of Toa Baja.
