The Dornier Do 22 was a German warplane developed in the 1930s. Its exceptional performance for the period made the fact that it was built entirely for the export market somewhat peculiar. Dornier-335 Arrow-WWII experimental fighter card model (1824 words)
Prof.Dr. Dornier first patented the configuration in 1937 that was to render the Do 335 unique when it appeared six years later, and to prove the practicability of the aft-mounted airscrew with its long extension shaft he commissioned Ulrich Bitter to design a small flying test bed embodying this feature.
The Do 335 V4 airframe was assigned to the Do 435 development programme and was destined never to be completed, still being under construction in the autumn of 1944 when the Do 435 programme was cancelled by the RLM.
First proposed in the autumn of 1943, the Do 435 was a night and allweather interceptor which, based on the Do 335, was to have featured a simplified structure and side-by-side seating for its two crew members, with cabin pressurization and long-span wooden outer wing panels.
Dornier Do 335 (3143 words)
The Dornier Do 335 was a bold attempt to embody the centre-line thrust concept in a practical and efficient airframe.
The Do 335 V9 (CP+UI) was the prototype for the Do 335A-0 pre-production model.
Do 335A-0 and A-1 aircraft are thought to have flown a number of operational missions with EK335.
