Dorrington is a census-designated place located in Calaveras County, California. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 727.


Geography

Dorrington is located at 38°18'5" North, 120°16'24" West (38.301509, -120.273381)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 9.5 km˛ (3.7 mi˛). 9.5 km˛ (3.7 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 727 people, 336 households, and 235 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 76.3/km˛ (197.7/mi˛). There are 1,523 housing units at an average density of 159.8/km˛ (414.1/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 94.22% White, 0.41% Black or African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.41% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.34% from other races, and 2.48% from two or more races. 5.36% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 336 households out of which 16.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.9% are married couples living together, 3.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.8% are non-families. 25.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.16 and the average family size is 2.56.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 16.2% under the age of 18, 3.3% from 18 to 24, 19.0% from 25 to 44, 45.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 50 years. For every 100 females there are 102.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 105.7 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $85,000, and the median income for a family is $89,423. Males have a median income of $68,750 versus $48,750 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $53,832. 0.0% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line.
