It is part of the somatosensory system and runs in parallel with the ventral spinocerebellar tract. Proprioceptive information is taken to the spinal cord where it meets the first order neuron in the Dorsal Root Ganglion,information then travels thru the dorsal horn where it synapses with a second order neuron, this proprioceptive information travels up the spinal cord in the posterior funiculus ipsilaterally until it reaches the brainstem. At Brainstem level it desuccates in the medulla oblongata.
