Dorval is a city in southwestern Quebec, Canada in the western part of the Island of Montreal; pop.
As with many other settlements on the Island of Montreal, the Grand Trunk Railway, which came to Dorval in 1855, was highly instrumental in attracting many wealthier families, mostly English speaking, in search of a summer refuge in proximity to their downtown residence and place of work.
On January 1, 2002Dorval, as an entity, was dissolved by the province of Quebec via Bill 170 (Municipal Territorial Organization), and recreated as a borough of the City of Montreal.
As in most parts of Quebec, French is the most common spoken language and only the city of Paris can claim a higher francophone population.
Montreal is situated in the southwestern corner of Quebec approximately 270 kilometres (168 miles) southwest of Quebec City, the provincial capital, and 190 kilometres (118 miles) east of Ottawa, the federal capital.
The members are all elected municipal officers, with the exception of a representative of the government of Quebec on the public security committee.
