This took a harsh toll on his life as it made him feel very depressed, frustrated and lost.[citation needed] He finally told the world about it through a 1998 interview by rock critic and author Mark Joseph in RQ Magazine in which he came out of the closet as gay and attributed his homosexuality to being molested as a child. He relieved some of his pain and subsequently stated that he stopped believing in God so he could finally achieve happiness.
