Shedden, who played the position of centre, spent eight seasons playing in the National Hockey League for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, Quebec Nordiques and Toronto Maple Leafs. Shedden is currently the head coach of Jokerit of the Finnish SM-liiga. He previously coached HIFK, another Finnish SM-liiga team. Shedden, 42, is coach of the Memphis RiverKings of the CHL, who won their second consecutive President's Cup championship in late April.
Shedden, who played 332 of his 416 career NHL games with the Penguins, said he still loves Pittsburgh and has friends in the area.
In addition to his two championships in three years with the RiverKings, Shedden won back-to-back titles with Wichita of the CHL in 1994 and '95 and led the Flint Generals to the UHL title in 2000.

Toronto Maple Leafs GM John Ferguson announced Wednesday the contracts of head coach Doug Shedden and assistants Kevin McClelland and Russ Adam would not be renewed for the club's farm team.
Shedden met with Ferguson on Tuesday and was told his contract would not be renewed when it expired July 1.
Shedden became the club's sixth head coach when he was hired June 24, 2003.
