Doughboys is a novella by Christopher Levy. Doughboys tells the story of two brothers, and how they become alienated during the events of the First World War. It was first conceived in the late 1990s, when its author was struck by footage of World War I veterans. The idea was shelved, and later rekindled when the author read As I Lay Dying, by William Faulkner, in which a character reminded him of the World War I veterans. First outlined extensively in July, 2003, work began in earnest in August, 2004, and was completed in mid-October of that same year. // Events and trends The 1990s are generally classified as having moved slightly away from the more conservative 1980s, but keeping the same mind-set. ...
