More than 2,000 people sat in the grandstand at Dover Downs to watch the track’s six-month live harness racing season kick off Nov. 1 and to put a few dollars down on their ponies of choice in hopes of taking home a share of the night’s purse.
While Dover Downs and Delaware’s other two tracks – Harrington Raceway and Delaware Park – are flourishing, it was less than a decade ago that the possibility of the tracks being put out to pasture was a reality.
