The GAA is often accused of being a sectarian organisation, almost always by unionist politicians in Northern Ireland.
Since the 1960s, GAA has allowed its flagship stadium, Croke Park, to be used for International rules football — a compromise between Gaelic football and Australian rules — in matches between Ireland and Australia.
The nationalism of the GAA made its members and clubhouses particular targets for loyalist terrorists during the Troubles and up to the present-day.

Down exploded into scoring action after just 20 seconds when a rapier sharp pass from impressive midfielder Declan Sheerin sliced open the Meath defence and allowed Patrick Pearse McCartan to drill over a neat finish.
The real problems for Down during the first half was the team’s appalling tendency to simply give the ball away to the opposition.
Down had already run the substitution changes with Murtagh, Mulholland, McCrickard and McMahon all adding their own brand of spice to the Down effort.
