Doxa Dramas is one of the most historic football clubs of Greece. It was founded in the prefecture of Drama, Greece in 1918. Doxa Dramas (Δόξα Δράμας) means "glory of Drama" in Greek. It is the home team of the city of Drama situated in the northeast of Greece. The city of Drama has a population of approximately 45,000 people. During World War I, a team of English soldiers that were playing football on their campus inspired the first natives which created the first football club in the region called "Pileas" (1918). "Pileas" was renamed to "Doxa" in 1919. Initially, the team colors were black and white with the logo of a black clover. History

The first formal match of Doxa was against Kavala, the team of a neighbouring town with the same name. In that first game Doxa won 3-0. Doxa Dramas truly began to take off after the end of the civil war in Greece (1946-1949). The team of Doxa Dramas came to symbolize the great potential of rural Greece after a long period of disorder in the political life of Greece. It was then, that the team of Doxa earned the respect of all Greek supporters, showing high skills and competing against the top teams in Greece's 1st division (A' Ethniki, Alpha Ethniki). In 1953-1954, 1957-1958, 1958-1959 Doxa Dramas was the Greek football Cup finalist but unfortunately lost all three matches to Olympiakos. Even today, some bitterness still remains amongst Doxa Dramas fans, as it is widely believed that at that time Olympiakos enjoyed the support of the government. Doxa Dramas participated in 19 1st division (A' Ethniki) championships, since the creation of the 1st division in 1959. Today, Doxa Dramas are considered a powerful team in the 3rd Division of the Greek football championship (Gamma Ethniki). Its goal is to return to the 1st division after many years of financial and administrative turmoil which led to the team even playing for a time in Greece's amateur division (Delta Ethniki).
