This article has been tagged since June 2006. Dragon Half (ドラゴンハーフ, Doragon Hāfu?) is a humorous manga series created by Ryūsuke Mita, which was later adapted into an OVA series of two episodes. For the most part, the story revolves around the character Mink, the daughter of a human father and a dragon mother, and her quest for the legendary People Potion to win the love of Dick Saucer. The story is very tongue-in-cheek, and pokes fun at multiple clichés of anime, such as its overuse of super deformed characters and its wide range of genres, in a manner to similar to that of anime such as Excel Saga. Characters
- Mink
- Daughter of Rouce the Red Lightning and Mana, a red dragon, and the star of Dragon Half. She is a typical teenager, except for the fact she is half-dragon. She can fly with wings that appear when needed, can breathe fire, and is overall very strong and resistant to most forms of damage. She also seems to be jinxed, bringing all sorts of misfortunes to herself and anyone around her - this tendency (and her half-dragon heritage) earns her much enmity. Mink is also infatuated with Dick Saucer, the handsome dragonslayer/popstar. However, because of her half-dragon heritage, she is searching for the legendary People Potion, which would make her fully human. While questing, slain enemies provide her a source of food.
- Voiced by: Kotono Mitsuishi (Japanese), Jessica Calvello (English)
- Rouce the Red Lightning
- Mink's father, who was at one time one of the greatest knights in the kingdom. Oringally the king had sent Rouce to slay a red dragon that had invaded the land. But remarkably, instead of killing the dragon, Mana, he fell in love and married her. Rouce subsequently retired from the knight business, and the couple now lives in a quiet valley where they raise their daughter, Mink. Occasionally, he and Mana get into an argument which Mink tries to defuse. Rouce disapproves of Mink's crush on Dick Saucer. Though he wishes for his daughter's respect, she has likened him to "yesterday's garbage".
- Voiced by: Takeshi Aono (Japanese), Rob Mungle (English)
- Mana
- Mink's mother. As a red dragon, Mana has the ability to change her form (in the manga, she turns back into a dragon when she gets angry). As a result, she can change her form into a beautiful blonde woman; the only evidence that she is a dragon is her small fan-like dragon ears. She also acts as a moderating force to Rouce's vagaries—usually whenever he freaks out or acts like a pervert.
- Voiced by: Kikuko Inoue (Japanese), Marcy Rae (English)
- Dick Saucer
- Dick Saucer is a famous dragon slayer and pop idol. He is an archetypal pretty-boy and is admired by many girls, including Mink. However, because the King led Saucer to believe that Mink is a red dragon, he is trying to kill her.
- Voiced by: Yasunori Matsumoto (Japanese), Aaron Krohn (English)
- King Siva
- Also simply known as "the king." His daughter Vina describes him as "balder than a baboon's ass with a face like a squashed frog". He is possibly the least intelligent character, save Damaramu, and bends over backwards to satisfy his spoiled daughter's desires. He aims to kill Rouce for defying his decree, and subsequently to marry Mana himself. His favorite method of punishing insubordinates is a stone block called "Super Crushing Press" or "The King's Anger".
- Voiced by: Kenichi Ogata (Japanese), Paul Sidello (English)
- Princess Vina
- Slime-half daughter of King Siva and Venus, Princess Vina has spent most of her life in the form of a slime creature. At her birth, the king went completely bald and her mother died of a broken heart because of her condition. It was only by studying black magic for thirteen years that she was able to achieve a human form, but this transformation can come undone if she is hurt sufficiently. Vina is Mink's rival for the affections of Dick Saucer, and will stop at nothing to reach her goals. She is very defensive about her father, who spoils her rotten, promising to "royally ass-whip" anyone who offends him.
- Voiced by: Rei Sakuma (Japanese), Amanda Winn Lee (English)
- Lufa
- Mink's best friend, she is an elf who fights using a lightning cane but has terrible accuracy. She also has superb healing powers, and may have a crush on Mink.
- Voiced by: Mariko Kouda (Japanese), Jennifer K. Earhart (English)
- Pia
- A young dwarf girl who is friends with Mink, Lufa and Mappy. Pia constantly wears body armor, due to her overly-protective parents.
- Voiced by: Taeko Kawata (Japanese), Hillary Haag (English)
- Mappy
- Pia's pet mouse. Mappy acts as Pia's bodyguard while traveling, and is able to transform to the size of a grizzly bear at will. This tends to deter Lufa from whacking Pia when annoyed, as Mappy may whack Lufa in return. In the anime he is present from the beginning, whereas in the manga he appears much later.
- Voiced by: Takumi Yamazaki
- Rosario
- A priest-like figure who the King relies on to deal with Mink. Fortunately for her, he generally bungles. He fancies himself a great magician, but has no powers, using cheesy special effects to terrorize or impress others.
- Voiced by: Kaneto Shiozawa (Japanese), Andy McAvin (English)
- Damaramu
- An archetypal dumb brute who brags about his fighting skill (which is actually very low), often referring to himself in the third person as "The Mighty Damaramu". He is sent by the King to hunt Mink, but due to his stupidity and Mink's jinx, he is doomed to failure. During the Brutal Killer Martial Arts Tournament, Damaramu reappears as a cyborg, having survived the previous encounter due to his "compact brain", which escaped being impaled by his own laser sword.
- Voiced by: Akio Ohtsuka (Japanese), Brett Weaver (English)
- Dug Finn
- Master demon and son of Azetodeth the Warlock. He is rodent-like in appearance, and while very skilled in magic, is childishly influenced by candy.
- Voiced by: Megumi Urawa (Japanese), Tiffany Grant (English)
- Venus
- A slime creature who fell in love with the King. In order to win his affection, she used the People Potion to change herself into a beautiful human female. Naturally, the King fell in love with Venus and the two married. She gave birth to Vina before the events of Dragon Half but died of a broken heart that her daughter was born a slime half.
- Voiced by: Noriko Asano (Japanese), Kelly Manison (English)
- Roshi
- Damaramu's wyvern/dinosaur bird type companion which he uses for aerial transportation. It participates in Damaramu's first battle with Mink and company, but is eaten after Damaramu's defeat.
- Voiced by: Spike Spencer
- Blacksmith Tony
- An unseen character who makes various mecha suits and creatures.

Trivia - The series pokes fun at its own short run by breaking the fourth wall. For example, Mink notes that she never slayed Azetodeth due to the scene being cut. Dug Finn watches the first episode to confirm this statement.
- The theme song, My Omelette, was a parody song written to the music of Beethoven and sung by Kotono Mitsuishi while in character. While it was translated in subtitles, it was not substituted for the English release.
- In the theme song, Kotono Mitsuishi sings the phrase "kamsahamnida, I am sorry". The "kamsahamnida" is actually Korean and means "thank you". She also sings "One two three four, yi er san si"; however, this time the lyrics are correct, as "yi er san si" really is Chinese for "one two three four".
- Mappy's name may well be a reference to the video game Mappy by Namco. Additionally, Roshi's name may come from another video game character, Yoshi. It may also be a reference to the Dragonball character Master Roshi.
