He then joined the Faculty of Sciences of Rabat where he graduated in physics and chemistry in 1966. Between 1968 and 1993, Jettou occupied many managerial positions of several Moroccan companies. He was appointed to the position of Prime Minister by King Mohammed VI on October 9, 2002. His appointment has been controversial as he is not a member of any party, although he is now governing with a coalition which has the majority. The Socialist Union of Forces for Progress and Independence Party are the major parties of this coalition. Jettou was born in the town of El-Jadida.
