The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) is an executive agency of the UK Department for Transport (DfT) and is part of the Driver, Vehicle and Operator (DVO) group. Its maxim is 'Safe Driving for Life', and it seeks to achieve this through testing of both theoretical and practical aspects of driving, and maintenance of a good standard of driving instruction. The responsibilities of the DSA only cover Great Britain, in Northern Ireland the same role is carried out by the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA). An Executive Agency is a British public institution that carries out some part of the executive functions of the United Kingdom government, Scottish Executive, Welsh Assembly and Northern Ireland Executive. ... Profile

The DSA employs around 2,500 staff, about 1,800 of whom are practical driving examiners. It has 400 practical test centres throughout the Great Britain. In 2005, the agency carried out some 1.4 million practical car tests and 2.1 million driving theory tests.

Examinations

The UK driving test system, which you must pass to obtain a driving licence now has three components; a theory test, a hazard perception test and a practical exam. All of these are regulated by the DSA. The current pass rate for car 'L' tests is 43%. German version reverse 9. ... The theory test is being changed in September 2007 to include 50 questions, instead of the previous 35.


The Theory Test for the Car and Bike Categories will also change in cost to £30.50 from September 2007
