Drop the Beat was a Canadian television series, which aired on the CBC in 2000. A short run dramatic series, the show was one of the first television series ever built around hip hop music and culture.
The show, a spinoff of the earlier CBC series Straight Up, starred Mark Taylor as Jeff and Merwin Mondesir as Dennis, the hosts of a hip hop show on CIBJ-FM, a fictional Toronto, Ontariocollege radio station. Michie Mee starred as Divine, a rapper who was part of Jeff and Dennis' crew, and Ingrid Veninger played the station manager.
The use of a college radio station was a deliberate reflection of Canadian reality -- until Toronto's Flow 93.5 hit the airwaves in early 2001, Canada did not have any radio stations dedicated specifically to urban music.
The Beat went down quietly again in the 2nd mustering only a leadoff single by 1st baseman Donnell Moody out of the cleanup spot.
After holding Nicoya scoreless in the bottom of the 2nd, The Beat came back to tie the game in the top of the 3rd on 5 consecutive singles by Jim "The Thrill" Colletto, Pete Wenner, Gunnar-man Rosequist, OB and Kevin, and a sacrifice fly by number 2-hitter Brian Arcuri.
The Beat came back with two to make it 12-7 in the top of the 5th on an OB single and Brian Arcuri triple over the shallow-playing left fielder Hanson.
