The Drung people (own name: tɯɹɯŋ, Chinese: 独龙族 Dúlóngzú) are an ethnic group. They form one of the 56 ethnic groups officially recognized by the People's Republic of China. Their population of 6,000 is found in Yunnan province. Another 600 can be found along the Nujiang River in the northern Gongshan County.


Most of the Drung are Animist, although there are some Christians.

Drung Minority - Chinese Nationalities (400 words)
The Drungs also known as the Dulong, numbering about 4,700, live mainly in the Dulong River valley of the Gongshan Drung and Nu Autonomous County in northwestern Yunnan Province.
During the Tang Dynasty (618-907), the places where the Drungs lived were under the jurisdiction of the Nanzhao and Dali principalities.
From the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) to the end of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), the Drungs were ruled by court-appointed Naxi headmen.
