He was a Huguenot, and served under Henry IV of France. He is known as an epic poet. La Sepmaine; ou, Creation du monde (1578) was an influential Biblical work, which was translated into English. With its unfinished sequel La Seconde Sepmaine (1584) it was a theologically-Protestant work on the scriptures. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the name of Huguenots came to apply to members of the Protestant Reformed Church of France. ...
