Duan Chengshi (Chinese: 段成式; Wade-Giles: Tuan Ch'engshih, d. 863) is known as the author of the earliest known version of Cinderella and a scholar of the Tang Dynasty of China. He was born to a wealthy family in present day Zibo, Shandong. In all probability, it was a folktale told by peasants before it was recorded on paper.
