History

The school was originally in the Karama area of Dubai. It had a humble beginning in portacabins, with only around 200 students. In 1988, it shifted to its current campus located near Safa Park in Jumeirah. The school recently celebrated its 20th anniversary on the 20th of September, with the first gathering of alumni and the formation of the Alumni Association. Academics is one of the strengths of Modern High. The school maintains consistently high scores in both the ICSE and ISC examinations. In 2004, DMHS was honoured with having one of their students, Aditya Galgotia, become the All-India ISC topper, with an average of 98.75% In 2005, the ICSE batch class average was 86.2%, with 33.5% of the students scoring above 90%. Shrivats Mohan Iyer topped the examination with 96.6%. In the same year in the ISC, Aditya Shashi, scored 96.75%, which was the top mark for the science stream. Rishi Marwa came first in the commerce stream with an average of 95%. In 2006, 31% of the ICSE candidates scored above 90%. Ankit Kushwaha came first with an average of 96.2%. Nikhil Krishnan topped the ISC exam, with 97.25% for the science stream. Pranita Fernandes topped the commerce stream with 96%(exact percentage to be confirmed).


Debating

From 2000 onwards, under the guidance of Mr. Michael James (Debating in-charge), the Modern High debating team has been competing at an 'All-India' level. Debate is a formalized system of (usually) logical argument. ...


In 2006, the Modern High team won the 'All India Annual Chuckerbutty Memorial English Debate' at the Doon School, Dehra Dun. The team comprised Shrivats Mohan Iyer, Kaushik Mohan Iyer, Adhitya Srinivasan and Rajiv Naresh. Shrivats won 1st place in the preliminary round and in the 'Just A Minute' segment in the semi-finals. In the finals, Modern High beat the host school. Adhitya Srinivasan was adjudged the 'Most Promising Speaker'. In the same year, the Modern High team won the prestigious 'All India Frank Anthony Memorial Debate' held at Frank Antony Public School. Kaushik Mohan Iyer won the 3rd best speaker award. In 2004, the team of Rohan Singh and Aditya Shashi placed 2nd at the Frank Antony Debate. They later won the Annual Consul General Debate at the Indian Consulate, Dubai. Rohan Singh was adjudged Best Speaker.


In 2003, the team of Anish Palekar and Varsha Ramakrishnan placed 2nd at the Frank Antony Debate. Anish Palekar was adjudged 2nd Best Speaker. A team comprising Varsha Ramakrishnan and Madhumita Subramaniam placed 2nd at the Annual Consul General Debate. Madhumita won the Best Speaker award while Varsha placed 2nd.


In 2002, the team of Arjun Barman and Anish Palekar placed 2nd at the Frank Antony Debate. Arjun Burman was adjudged the 2nd Best Speaker. At the Annual Consul General Debate, Modern High came first. Arjun Burman won the 'Best Speaker' award.


In 2001, the team of Anand Koshy and Arjun Barman placed 2nd at the Frank Antony Debate.

House System
