Duchcov, also known as Dux, Tokczav , is a town in Czech Republic. First documented reference to the town is from 1207. It refers to an older name Hrabišín. Since 1675 there is a brewery.
It is the Wallenstein family's credit that the Virgin Mary Announcement Church and the smaller St Barbara's Church were completed in 1721 and that the baroque hospital with the famous fresco from Reiner followed in 1728.
Duchcov then became district centre and experienced another period of explosive growth thanks to coal mining, a new sugar factory and West Bohemia's first glass works.
Modern Duchcov is a centre of culture and social life for the western part of the Teplice County.
J.B.Mathey also planned (Archbishop's palace in Prague, Troja Chateau, etc..)The building in Duchcov became a significant turning point in Czech history of castle architecture and in spite of later modifications, basic three -wing structure with corps-de-logis was kept until today.
The interior and the exterior of Duchcov were subjected to a classical reconstruction and the garden was reconstructed in English style and in 1816 a famous alley was laid out there.
Duchcov enjoyed the interest of Wolfgang Goethe, Friedrich Schiller, Ludwig van Beethoven, Frederic Chopin, Josef Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who also visited and worked in Duchcov Castle.
