Blisworth Tunnel is a canaltunnel on the Grand Union Canal in Northamptonshire, England between the villages of Stoke Bruerne (southern end) and Blisworth (northern end).
At 3076 yards (2813m) long it is the third-longest navigable canaltunnel on the UK canal network after Standedge Tunnel and DudleyTunnel (and the ninth-longest canaltunnel in the world).
In March 1805, the tunnel was finally opened and the rails were used to connect the main line of the canal to the River Nene until the branch canal to Northampton was constructed.
However, since the DudleyTunnel is not continuous this status is sometimes questioned: (the main tunnel is 2,942 yards, Lord Ward's tunnel is 196 yards and Castle Mill basin is 34 yards}.
The southern end, including the southern portal, of the tunnel had to be rebuilt in 1884 due to subsidence caused by adjacent coal mines.
The restrictive dimensions of the tunnel and the absence of a towpath mean that many boats are unable to pass through it.
