According to the band's website it was released because there had been new albums in 1992 and 1993, but there would not be in 1994 thus the fan were expecting a new one. This is probably due to the success of Transmissions from the Satellite Heart and the band extensive promotion of it. The EP is a collection of demos, live recordings, and covers. Due in part to the length of the tracks and the number of them, the EP runs as long as a full album. The artwork is in a similar vain to that of Transmissions from the Satellite Heart.
