Duke Erikson performing live with Shirley Manson and Eric Avery

Douglas "Duke" Erikson was born in Nebraska on 15 January 1953. At 16 years old he created his first band, The British. Erikson studied art history, and financed his studies with numerous jobs such as a carpenter or a truck driver. Duke is single and the father of a daughter. In 1987 Duke and Butch created, with Phil Davis as a singer, the band Firetown. Firetown published two albums and six singles in very short period of time, and a video for the single Carry The Torch. But in 1989 the band separated and it brought the reunification of the singleSpooner to reunite them. A new album (Fugitive Dance) as well as new single appeared, before the band separated in 1993. By this time, Butch Vig had made himself a name as a producer. Warm-up show review (1081 words)
As Duke Erikson is quick to point out, both Garbage albums are produced by the whole band - Erikson, Butch Vig (drums), Steve Marker (bass) and Edinburgh-based singer Shirley Manson - even though Manson is a self-confessed Luddite and technophobe.
Duke reckons the greatest difference between the first and second albums is Shirley Manson's lyrics.
Duke Erikson may not be a total weirdo perfectionist, but he does a pretty good impression of one.
