History

On January 2, 1931, the school opened its doors to its first class of 24 undergraduate students. It originally offered a baccalaureate degree in nursing, In 1953, the school began offering a bachelor of science in nursing and in 1958 it started one of the nation's first graduate nursing programs. The school stopped offereing the bachelors degree in the 1980s, instead focusing on Masters of Science in Nursing degree, post-master's certificates, and joint degree programs. In 2002, the school began an accelerated Bachelors of Science in Nursing program for students who already had a bachelors degree in another subject. A Ph.D program will begin in 2006.
