Dunmore is a borough located in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 14,018.


Geography

Dunmore is located at 41°25'3" North, 75°37'28" West (41.417530, -75.624432)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 22.8 km˛ (8.8 mi˛). 22.6 km˛ (8.7 mi˛) of it is land and 0.2 km˛ (0.1 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 0.79% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 14,018 people, 6,141 households, and 3,788 families residing in the borough. The population density is 619.3/km˛ (1,603.7/mi˛). There are 6,528 housing units at an average density of 288.4/km˛ (746.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the borough is 98.45% White, 0.49% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.44% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.18% from other races, and 0.36% from two or more races. 0.88% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 6,141 households out of which 24.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.1% are married couples living together, 11.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.3% are non-families. 34.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.26 and the average family size is 2.95.


In the borough the population is spread out with 20.9% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 22.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 88.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.4 males.


The median income for a household in the borough is $33,280, and the median income for a family is $43,354. Males have a median income of $32,855 versus $24,167 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $19,851. 10.5% of the population and 6.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 11.1% of those under the age of 18 and 11.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
