Dunn County is a county located in the state of Wisconsin. As of 2000, the population is 39,858. Its county seat is Menomonie6.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,238 km˛ (864 mi˛). 2,207 km˛ (852 mi˛) of it is land and 31 km˛ (12 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 1.38% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 39,858 people, 14,337 households, and 9,261 families residing in the county. The population density is 18/km˛ (47/mi˛). There are 15,277 housing units at an average density of 7/km˛ (18/mi˛). The racial makeup of the county is 96.08% White, 0.34% Black or African American, 0.27% Native American, 2.13% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.37% from other races, and 0.80% from two or more races. 0.84% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 14,337 households out of which 31.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.10% are married couples living together, 6.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.40% are non-families. 24.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.57 and the average family size is 3.07.


In the county, the population is spread out with 23.30% under the age of 18, 19.80% from 18 to 24, 25.70% from 25 to 44, 19.80% from 45 to 64, and 11.20% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 101.70 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 102.20 males.
