Dupont is a town located in Waupaca County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 741.


Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 90.8 km² (35.1 mi²). 90.0 km² (34.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.9 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.97% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 741 people, 233 households, and 181 families residing in the town. The population density is 8.2/km² (21.3/mi²). There are 257 housing units at an average density of 2.9/km² (7.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.71% White, 0.00% African American, 0.13% Native American, 1.62% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.54% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 233 households out of which 40.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.0% are married couples living together, 5.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.3% are non-families. 21.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.18 and the average family size is 3.73.


In the town the population is spread out with 33.7% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 21.1% from 45 to 64, and 10.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 106.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 117.3 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $33,854, and the median income for a family is $38,750. Males have a median income of $26,625 versus $19,375 for females. The per capita income for the town is $13,108. 7.2% of the population and 4.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 12.0% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

DuPont Co., the third-biggest U.S. chemical maker, and Bunge Ltd., the largest soybean processor, are expanding their soybean partnership for making healthy oils to include biodiesel products and lubricants.
DuPont and Bunge are breeding soybeans for higher oil content to meet demand from biodiesel producers, Fyrwald said.
